Gyeongsangnam-do Uiryeong-gun

Registered foreigners in Gyeongsangnam-do Uiryeong-gun number 1,068, which is 4.34% of the resident-registration population of 24,636. That is above both the national average of 3.14% and the Gyeongsangnam-do average of 3.53%. It ranks 64 among the 250 districts. Within Gyeongsangnam-do it ranks 7 of 22. Over the past 10 years, registered foreigners rose from 795 in 2015 to 1,068, an increase of about 34.3%. 25 nationalities are counted, and the three largest are Vietnam at 31.8%, Cambodia at 12.7%, and Laos at 12.5%. Shannon diversity (H) is 2.182, below the national 2.607, and ranks 163 of 250 districts. Within Gyeongsangnam-do it ranks 16. By continent of origin, diversity is 0.212, above the national 0.123. It ranks 37 of 250 districts. Southeast Asia accounts for 55.7% and South Asia for 15.9%, and the two together are 71.6%. The location quotient (LQ) for Vietnam is 2.4, and this one nationality is 31.8% of the foreigners in the district. Language demand estimated from the nationality composition is highest for Vietnamese, then Khmer, then Lao.

Foreign residents (MOIS) numbered 1,570 in 2024, which is 6.4% of the resident-registration population of 24,609. Of these, 1,182 do not hold Republic of Korea nationality, 134 have acquired nationality, and 254 are children of foreign residents. By type, foreign workers number 589, other foreigners 477, Marriage migrants 79, and overseas Koreans with foreign nationality 36. Children of foreign residents number 254, which ranks 238 among 252 districts and is 16.2% of foreign residents in this district. Among the 1,068 people with a known status of stay, the most common are Non-professional Employment (E9) with 473 people at 44.3%, Seasonal Worker (E8) with 210 at 19.7%, and Specially Designated Activities (E7) with 100 at 9.4%. Organizations that support immigrants number 1 in this district, or 9.4 per 10,000 registered foreigners.
