Gyeongsangnam-do

Gyeongsangnam-do has 113,189 registered foreign residents, 3.53% of its resident-registration population of 3,207,383. That is above the national average of 3.14% and ranks 6th among the seventeen provinces. 7.05% of all registered foreign residents in Korea live here. The share has risen from 2.45% in 2015 to 3.53%, a change of about 44.1%. 127 nationalities are counted, and the three largest are Vietnam (25.7%), Indonesia (10%), Uzbekistan (7.6%). The nationality diversity index H is 2.555, 7th among the seventeen. By continent of origin the index is 0.17, 3rd. Language demand estimated from nationality composition covers 52 languages and 89,381 people, the largest three being Vietnamese (27.9%), Indonesian (8.9%), Khmer (8.4%).

On the Ministry of the Interior and Safety count, foreign residents numbered 162,714 in 2024, 5.04% of the resident-registration population of 3,228,380. By type the largest are Migrant workers (54,925), Other foreign residents (45,394), Ethnic Koreans with foreign nationality (11,767). Children of foreign residents number 21,773. The settlement rate is 21% and the settlement type is classified as Industrial. Of the 113,189 people whose visa status is recorded, the largest categories are Non-professional Employment (E9) 36.9%, Specially Designated Activities (E7) 11.5%, Marriage Migration (F6) 8.8%. Across 22 districts the largest count is in Gimhae-si (27,196, 24.03% of the province) and the highest share of population is in Haman-gun (9.01%). This province holds 61 organizations serving immigrants, 5.4 per 10,000 registered foreign residents against 7.1 nationally.
