Gyeongsangnam-do Miryang-si

Registered foreigners in Gyeongsangnam-do Miryang-si number 5,822, which is 5.87% of the resident-registration population of 99,252. That is above both the national average of 3.14% and the Gyeongsangnam-do average of 3.53%. It ranks 34 among the 250 districts. Within Gyeongsangnam-do it ranks 4 of 22. Over the past 10 years, registered foreigners rose from 2,089 in 2015 to 5,822, an increase of about 178.7%. 36 nationalities are counted, and the three largest are Cambodia at 25.5%, Laos at 18.6%, and Vietnam at 11.9%. Shannon diversity (H) is 2.297, below the national 2.607, and ranks 127 of 250 districts. Within Gyeongsangnam-do it ranks 12. By continent of origin, diversity is 0.269, above the national 0.123. It ranks 21 of 250 districts. Southeast Asia accounts for 51% and Other for 20.4%, and the two together are 71.4%. Language demand estimated from the nationality composition is highest for Khmer, then Vietnamese, then Lao.

Foreign residents (MOIS) numbered 7,590 in 2024, which is 7.4% of the resident-registration population of 102,535. Of these, 6,318 do not hold Republic of Korea nationality, 421 have acquired nationality, and 851 are children of foreign residents. By type, foreign workers number 3,266, other foreigners 2,516, Marriage migrants 350, and overseas Koreans with foreign nationality 153. Children of foreign residents number 851, which ranks 146 among 252 districts and is 11.2% of foreign residents in this district. Among the 5,822 people with a known status of stay, the most common are Non-professional Employment (E9) with 2,972 people at 51%, Seasonal Worker (E8) with 1,244 at 21.4%, and Specially Designated Activities (E7) with 382 at 6.6%. Organizations that support immigrants number 2 in this district, or 3.4 per 10,000 registered foreigners.
