Seoul Seongdong-gu

Registered foreigners in Seoul Seongdong-gu number 8,108, which is 2.95% of the resident-registration population of 274,606. That is below both the national average of 3.14% and the Seoul average of 3.01%. It ranks 113 among the 250 districts. Within Seoul it ranks 14 of 25. Over the past 10 years, registered foreigners rose from 8,062 in 2015 to 8,108, an increase of about 0.6%. 100 nationalities are counted, and the three largest are China at 31.8%, Vietnam at 13.1%, and Korean-Chinese at 13.1%. Shannon diversity (H) is 2.267, below the national 2.607, and ranks 140 of 250 districts. Within Seoul it ranks 9. By continent of origin, diversity is 0.087, below the national 0.123. It ranks 161 of 250 districts. East Asia accounts for 55.1% and Southeast Asia for 20.5%, and the two together are 75.6%. The location quotient (LQ) for China is 2.1, and this one nationality is 31.8% of the foreigners in the district. Language demand estimated from the nationality composition is highest for Chinese, then Vietnamese, then English.

Foreign residents (MOIS) numbered 12,372 in 2024, which is 4.5% of the resident-registration population of 274,688. Of these, 10,150 do not hold Republic of Korea nationality, 1,044 have acquired nationality, and 1,178 are children of foreign residents. By type, other foreigners number 3,078, International studentss 3,019, overseas Koreans with foreign nationality 1,991, and Marriage migrants 1,101. Children of foreign residents number 1,178, which ranks 105 among 252 districts and is 9.5% of foreign residents in this district. Among the 8,108 people with a known status of stay, the most common are Student (D2) with 3,074 people at 37.9%, Permanent Residence (F5) with 957 at 11.8%, and General Trainee (D4) with 895 at 11%. Organizations that support immigrants number 5 in this district, or 6.2 per 10,000 registered foreigners.
