Seoul Nowon-gu

Registered foreigners in Seoul Nowon-gu number 5,462, which is 1.13% of the resident-registration population of 483,541. That is below both the national average of 3.14% and the Seoul average of 3.01%. It ranks 219 among the 250 districts. Within Seoul it ranks 19 of 25. Over the past 10 years, registered foreigners rose from 3,638 in 2015 to 5,462, an increase of about 50.1%. 100 nationalities are counted, and the three largest are Vietnam at 27.2%, China at 13%, and Mongolia at 8.6%. Shannon diversity (H) is 2.375, below the national 2.607, and ranks 93 of 250 districts. Within Seoul it ranks 3. By continent of origin, diversity is 0.05, below the national 0.123. It ranks 217 of 250 districts. Southeast Asia accounts for 42.9% and East Asia for 35.9%, and the two together are 78.8%. Language demand estimated from the nationality composition is highest for Vietnamese, then Chinese, then Mongolian.

Foreign residents (MOIS) numbered 9,015 in 2024, which is 1.9% of the resident-registration population of 486,446. Of these, 6,667 do not hold Republic of Korea nationality, 963 have acquired nationality, and 1,385 are children of foreign residents. By type, International studentss number 2,545, other foreigners 1,937, Marriage migrants 1,012, and overseas Koreans with foreign nationality 658. Children of foreign residents number 1,385, which ranks 78 among 252 districts and is 15.4% of foreign residents in this district. Among the 5,462 people with a known status of stay, the most common are Student (D2) with 1,829 people at 33.5%, General Trainee (D4) with 947 at 17.3%, and Marriage Migration (F6) with 790 at 14.5%. Organizations that support immigrants number 5 in this district, or 9.2 per 10,000 registered foreigners.
