Seoul Jung-gu

Registered foreigners in Seoul Jung-gu number 10,639, which is 9.03% of the resident-registration population of 117,805. That is above both the national average of 3.14% and the Seoul average of 3.01%. It ranks 8 among the 250 districts. Within Seoul it ranks 1 of 25. Over the past 10 years, registered foreigners rose from 8,596 in 2015 to 10,639, an increase of about 23.8%. 125 nationalities are counted, and the three largest are China at 31.3%, Vietnam at 15.7%, and Korean-Chinese at 8.4%. Shannon diversity (H) is 2.165, below the national 2.607, and ranks 169 of 250 districts. Within Seoul it ranks 12. By continent of origin, diversity is 0.236, above the national 0.123. It ranks 27 of 250 districts. East Asia accounts for 49.5% and Southeast Asia for 18.5%, and the two together are 68%. The location quotient (LQ) for China is 6.4, and this one nationality is 31.3% of the foreigners in the district. Language demand estimated from the nationality composition is highest for Chinese, then Vietnamese, then Russian.

Foreign residents (MOIS) numbered 12,539 in 2024, which is 9.9% of the resident-registration population of 126,899. Of these, 11,187 do not hold Republic of Korea nationality, 713 have acquired nationality, and 639 are children of foreign residents. By type, other foreigners number 4,267, International studentss 2,975, overseas Koreans with foreign nationality 2,229, and foreign workers 994. Children of foreign residents number 639, which ranks 170 among 252 districts and is 5.1% of foreign residents in this district. Among the 10,639 people with a known status of stay, the most common are Student (D2) with 2,252 people at 21.2%, General Trainee (D4) with 1,239 at 11.6%, and Permanent Residence (F5) with 1,185 at 11.1%. Organizations that support immigrants number 23 in this district, or 21.6 per 10,000 registered foreigners.
