Jeollanam-do Gangjin-gun

Registered foreigners in Jeollanam-do Gangjin-gun number 747, which is 2.35% of the resident-registration population of 31,799. That is below both the national average of 3.14% and the Jeollanam-do average of 3.69%. It ranks 149 among the 250 districts. Within Jeollanam-do it ranks 18 of 22. Over the past 10 years, registered foreigners rose from 410 in 2015 to 747, an increase of about 82.2%. 30 nationalities are counted, and the three largest are Vietnam at 30.9%, Cambodia at 17.7%, and Nepal at 12.4%. Shannon diversity (H) is 2.194, below the national 2.607, and ranks 160 of 250 districts. Within Jeollanam-do it ranks 13. By continent of origin, diversity is 0.119, below the national 0.123. It ranks 118 of 250 districts. Southeast Asia accounts for 61.7% and South Asia for 22.4%, and the two together are 84.1%. Neighboring districts have low shares and this district alone is high. Language demand estimated from the nationality composition is highest for Vietnamese, then Khmer, then Nepali.

Foreign residents (MOIS) numbered 1,370 in 2024, which is 4.4% of the resident-registration population of 31,042. Of these, 831 do not hold Republic of Korea nationality, 162 have acquired nationality, and 377 are children of foreign residents. By type, other foreigners number 365, foreign workers 298, Marriage migrants 133, and overseas Koreans with foreign nationality 34. Children of foreign residents number 377, which ranks 211 among 252 districts and is 27.5% of foreign residents in this district. Among the 747 people with a known status of stay, the most common are Non-professional Employment (E9) with 318 people at 42.6%, Seasonal Worker (E8) with 136 at 18.2%, and Marriage Migration (F6) with 125 at 16.7%. Organizations that support immigrants number 2 in this district, or 26.8 per 10,000 registered foreigners.
