Gyeongsangnam-do Tongyeong-si

Registered foreigners in Gyeongsangnam-do Tongyeong-si number 5,332, which is 4.57% of the resident-registration population of 116,667. That is above both the national average of 3.14% and the Gyeongsangnam-do average of 3.53%. It ranks 59 among the 250 districts. Within Gyeongsangnam-do it ranks 6 of 22. Over the past 10 years, registered foreigners rose from 4,603 in 2015 to 5,332, an increase of about 15.8%. 44 nationalities are counted, and the three largest are Indonesia at 39.6%, Vietnam at 31.4%, and Timor-Leste at 8%. Shannon diversity (H) is 1.742, below the national 2.607, and ranks 236 of 250 districts. Within Gyeongsangnam-do it ranks 21. By continent of origin, diversity is 0.198, above the national 0.123. It ranks 50 of 250 districts. Southeast Asia accounts for 74.9% and Other for 9.5%, and the two together are 84.4%. The location quotient (LQ) for Indonesia is 14.9, and this one nationality is 39.6% of the foreigners in the district. Language demand estimated from the nationality composition is highest for Indonesian, then Vietnamese, then Chinese.

Foreign residents (MOIS) numbered 7,826 in 2024, which is 6.5% of the resident-registration population of 120,204. Of these, 6,289 do not hold Republic of Korea nationality, 542 have acquired nationality, and 995 are children of foreign residents. By type, foreign workers number 4,046, other foreigners 1,568, Marriage migrants 389, and overseas Koreans with foreign nationality 273. Children of foreign residents number 995, which ranks 128 among 252 districts and is 12.7% of foreign residents in this district. Among the 5,332 people with a known status of stay, the most common are Non-professional Employment (E9) with 2,032 people at 38.1%, E10 (E10) with 1,685 at 31.6%, and Seasonal Worker (E8) with 395 at 7.4%. Organizations that support immigrants number 3 in this district, or 5.6 per 10,000 registered foreigners.
