Gyeonggi-do Gwangmyeong-si

Registered foreigners in Gyeonggi-do Gwangmyeong-si number 3,010, which is 1.02% of the resident-registration population of 293,947. That is below both the national average of 3.14% and the Gyeonggi-do average of 3.59%. It ranks 225 among the 250 districts. Within Gyeonggi-do it ranks 35 of 42. Over the past 10 years, registered foreigners fell from 5,739 in 2015 to 3,010, a decrease of about 47.6%. 59 nationalities are counted, and the three largest are Korean-Chinese at 44.9%, China at 18.1%, and Vietnam at 8.6%. Shannon diversity (H) is 1.939, below the national 2.607, and ranks 216 of 250 districts. Within Gyeonggi-do it ranks 34. By continent of origin, diversity is 0.024, below the national 0.123. It ranks 246 of 250 districts. East Asia accounts for 69.9% and Southeast Asia for 19.3%, and the two together are 89.2%. Language demand estimated from the nationality composition is highest for Chinese, then Vietnamese, then Japanese.

Foreign residents (MOIS) numbered 7,273 in 2024, which is 2.7% of the resident-registration population of 272,371. Of these, 4,809 do not hold Republic of Korea nationality, 1,253 have acquired nationality, and 1,211 are children of foreign residents. By type, overseas Koreans with foreign nationality number 1,815, other foreigners 1,537, Marriage migrants 769, and foreign workers 647. Children of foreign residents number 1,211, which ranks 97 among 252 districts and is 16.7% of foreign residents in this district. Among the 3,010 people with a known status of stay, the most common are Permanent Residence (F5) with 1,100 people at 36.5%, Marriage Migration (F6) with 580 at 19.3%, and Visiting Employment (H2) with 338 at 11.2%. Organizations that support immigrants number 1 in this district, or 3.3 per 10,000 registered foreigners.
