Busan Haeundae-gu

Registered foreigners in Busan Haeundae-gu number 4,667, which is 1.25% of the resident-registration population of 372,604. That is below both the national average of 3.14% and the Busan average of 1.88%. It ranks 213 among the 250 districts. Within Busan it ranks 11 of 16. Over the past 10 years, registered foreigners rose from 4,075 in 2015 to 4,667, an increase of about 14.5%. 87 nationalities are counted, and the three largest are China at 20.2%, Vietnam at 17%, and United States at 9.1%. Shannon diversity (H) is 2.414, below the national 2.607, and ranks 80 of 250 districts. Within Busan it ranks 6. By continent of origin, diversity is 0.061, below the national 0.123. It ranks 198 of 250 districts. East Asia accounts for 33.4% and Southeast Asia for 23.1%, and the two together are 56.5%. Language demand estimated from the nationality composition is highest for Chinese, then Vietnamese, then English.

Foreign residents (MOIS) numbered 6,783 in 2024, which is 1.9% of the resident-registration population of 365,974. Of these, 4,767 do not hold Republic of Korea nationality, 627 have acquired nationality, and 1,389 are children of foreign residents. By type, other foreigners number 1,731, International studentss 977, Marriage migrants 879, and overseas Koreans with foreign nationality 657. Children of foreign residents number 1,389, which ranks 75 among 252 districts and is 20.5% of foreign residents in this district. Among the 4,667 people with a known status of stay, the most common are Student (D2) with 1,118 people at 24%, Marriage Migration (F6) with 742 at 15.9%, and Permanent Residence (F5) with 520 at 11.1%. Organizations that support immigrants number 3 in this district, or 6.4 per 10,000 registered foreigners.
