Seoul Seocho-gu

Registered foreigners in Seoul Seocho-gu number 4,867, which is 1.17% of the resident-registration population of 414,428. That is below both the national average of 3.14% and the Seoul average of 3.01%. It ranks 216 among the 250 districts. Within Seoul it ranks 18 of 25. Over the past 10 years, registered foreigners rose from 4,494 in 2015 to 4,867, an increase of about 8.3%. 103 nationalities are counted, and the three largest are China at 15.7%, United States at 15.3%, and France at 9.9%. Shannon diversity (H) is 2.115, below the national 2.607, and ranks 184 of 250 districts. Within Seoul it ranks 17. By continent of origin, diversity is 0.054, below the national 0.123. It ranks 208 of 250 districts. East Asia accounts for 34.8% and Other for 34.7%, and the two together are 69.5%. Language demand estimated from the nationality composition is highest for English, then Chinese, then French.

Foreign residents (MOIS) numbered 8,724 in 2024, which is 2.3% of the resident-registration population of 386,254. Of these, 6,375 do not hold Republic of Korea nationality, 629 have acquired nationality, and 1,720 are children of foreign residents. By type, other foreigners number 2,109, overseas Koreans with foreign nationality 1,804, Marriage migrants 1,236, and foreign workers 934. Children of foreign residents number 1,720, which ranks 46 among 252 districts and is 19.7% of foreign residents in this district. Among the 4,867 people with a known status of stay, the most common are Dependent Family (F3) with 668 people at 13.7%, Permanent Residence (F5) with 663 at 13.6%, and Marriage Migration (F6) with 644 at 13.2%. Organizations that support immigrants number 12 in this district, or 24.7 per 10,000 registered foreigners.
