Gangwon-do Hoengseong-gun

Registered foreigners in Gangwon-do Hoengseong-gun number 1,471, which is 3.22% of the resident-registration population of 45,627. That is above both the national average of 3.14% and the Gangwon-do average of 1.96%. It ranks 102 among the 250 districts. Within Gangwon-do it ranks 2 of 18. Over the past 10 years, registered foreigners rose from 674 in 2015 to 1,471, an increase of about 118.2%. 33 nationalities are counted, and the three largest are Vietnam at 19.7%, Nepal at 17.6%, and Thailand at 11.7%. Shannon diversity (H) is 2.476, below the national 2.607, and ranks 57 of 250 districts. Within Gangwon-do it ranks 7. By continent of origin, diversity is 0.156, above the national 0.123. It ranks 75 of 250 districts. Southeast Asia accounts for 51.6% and South Asia for 23.5%, and the two together are 75.1%. Language demand estimated from the nationality composition is highest for Vietnamese, then Thai, then Nepali.

Foreign residents (MOIS) numbered 2,918 in 2024, which is 6.4% of the resident-registration population of 45,947. Of these, 2,157 do not hold Republic of Korea nationality, 292 have acquired nationality, and 469 are children of foreign residents. By type, other foreigners number 1,170, foreign workers 584, Marriage migrants 185, and overseas Koreans with foreign nationality 138. Children of foreign residents number 469, which ranks 191 among 252 districts and is 16.1% of foreign residents in this district. Among the 1,471 people with a known status of stay, the most common are Non-professional Employment (E9) with 655 people at 44.5%, Marriage Migration (F6) with 157 at 10.7%, and Seasonal Worker (E8) with 128 at 8.7%. Organizations that support immigrants number 2 in this district, or 13.6 per 10,000 registered foreigners.
