Registered foreigners in Gunwi-gun number 604, which is 2.69% of the resident-registration population of 22,452. That is between the national average of 3.13% and the Daegu average of 1.69%. It ranks 126 among the 250 districts. Within Daegu it ranks 2 of 9. Over the past 10 years, registered foreigners rose from 576 in 2015 to 604, an increase of about 4.9%. 23 nationalities are counted, and the three largest are Sri Lanka at 24.5%, Nepal at 22.2%, and Vietnam at 14.2%. Shannon diversity (H) is 2.148, below the national 2.607, and ranks 176 of 250 districts. Within Daegu it ranks 8. By continent of origin, diversity is 0.142, above the national 0.127. It ranks 97 of 250 districts. South Asia accounts for 48.3% and Southeast Asia for 40.6%, and the two together are 88.9%. Foreign residents (MOIS) numbered 925 in 2024, which is 4.3% of the resident-registration population of 21,493. Of these, 673 do not hold Republic of Korea nationality, 83 have acquired nationality, and 169 are children of foreign residents. By type, foreign workers number 393, other foreigners 196, Marriage migrants 66, and overseas Koreans with foreign nationality 18. Children of foreign residents number 169, which ranks 248 among 252 districts and is 18.3% of foreign residents in this district. Among the 600 people with a known status of stay, the most common are Non-professional Employment (E9) with 366 people at 61%, Specially Designated Activities (E7) with 66 at 11%, and Marriage Migration (F6) with 63 at 10.5%. Organizations that support immigrants number 1 in this district, or 16.6 per 10,000 registered foreigners.
