Busan Jung-gu

Registered foreigners in Busan Jung-gu number 2,485, which is 6.8% of the resident-registration population of 36,518. That is above both the national average of 3.14% and the Busan average of 1.88%. It ranks 23 among the 250 districts. Within Busan it ranks 1 of 16. Over the past 10 years, registered foreigners rose from 1,518 in 2015 to 2,485, an increase of about 63.7%. 46 nationalities are counted, and the three largest are Vietnam at 38.3%, Myanmar at 18.2%, and Indonesia at 16.5%. Shannon diversity (H) is 1.915, below the national 2.607, and ranks 218 of 250 districts. Within Busan it ranks 14. By continent of origin, diversity is 0.246, above the national 0.123. It ranks 25 of 250 districts. Southeast Asia accounts for 75.1% and East Asia for 12.9%, and the two together are 88%. The location quotient (LQ) for Vietnam is 4.5, and this one nationality is 38.3% of the foreigners in the district. Language demand estimated from the nationality composition is highest for Vietnamese, then Indonesian, then Burmese.

Foreign residents (MOIS) numbered 3,278 in 2024, which is 8.3% of the resident-registration population of 39,599. Of these, 3,024 do not hold Republic of Korea nationality, 124 have acquired nationality, and 130 are children of foreign residents. By type, foreign workers number 1,029, other foreigners 911, International studentss 747, and overseas Koreans with foreign nationality 193. Children of foreign residents number 130, which ranks 250 among 252 districts and is 4% of foreign residents in this district. Among the 2,485 people with a known status of stay, the most common are E10 (E10) with 1,012 people at 40.7%, General Trainee (D4) with 446 at 17.9%, and Student (D2) with 385 at 15.5%. Organizations that support immigrants number 3 in this district, or 12.1 per 10,000 registered foreigners.
