In Korean policy 'multicultural' is a narrow legal category for marriage between a Korean and a foreign spouse and their children, and the label has been criticized for stigmatizing those children. KIRD avoids 'multicultural' as an umbrella term and disaggregates by nationality, generation, and region to show immigrant-origin children — and the shift from short-term labor toward long-term settlement and a second generation.
